Sailed a two-boat, 8-10 mile race on the Potomac yesterday against an AMF 2100 that usually (that would be almost always) beats me, but we were sailing in a sustained 15 kts, gusting to around 25. The AMF was struggling, while we forged ahead under a single-reefed main and a partially rolled genoa. I'm always blown away at how easily the M17 sails under those conditions, even in the short, steep chop the river throws up in a breeze. Just puts her shoulder into it and keeps moving ahead. We made a steady 4 to 5 kts to windward and around 6 downwind. The competition was barely in sight astern as we crossed the finish line. Just wanted to share. I've had the boat for 7 years, and she never ceases to amaze me. Rick M17 #633 Lynne L
