Hello Rav4 owner. Don, I am here on the west coast and I am considering getting a Rav4 for pulling my M-15. Can you tell me what type or brand of trailer hitch / receiver you put on your Rav4 ? I currently have the small receiver type on my Camry Wagon. The Camry is pretty gutless so I am a "gentle drive" with the rig. ---Thanks and good luck with the brake discussion.....Larry M-15 Old Monty 189 by Jerry M. ps.....if you have photos please send by email to this email address. -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Don White Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2012 4:29 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: Trailer Brakes Up here on the salty North Atlantic boaters avoid boat trailer brakes unless the boat/Trailer/outboard combination weight approaches the legal requirement of 3000 pounds. This is to avoid brake corrosion problems common around here. Right now I am investigating upgrading from my 4 cyl RAV4 because my new boat/motor/Trailer rig weighs 1914 lbs as per a highway weigh station. BTW. No brakes on the new rig. I'm considering a 4 cylinder SUV that claims 1500 lb tow capacity with brakes and 1000 without. Has any put brakes on a mid-80s M15 Trailrite trailer? .
Any recommendations, pros/cons?
Thanks , Don Haas
