My M17 hull #38 came with a used/newer North Sails main in reasonably good shape. It also came with what I believed was the original main, which was already folded up nicely. Since it was boltrope instead of slugs like the North, and felt pretty soft, and I didn't have a good space at the time to open it up and check it out, and wasn't going to use it, it has remained folded and stored, until earlier this evening. In attempting to put it in a storage bin, I was reminded that it still had the battens in, and I couldn't fold it the way I wanted so it would fit in the bin. I opened it up and found the battens sewn in (pockets sewn shut at leach end). I also found the label, which shows it's an original Reggie Armstrong main - with one deep reef, three battens, nylon plastic head reinforcement plate, and a big letter "M" (no "17" though). And, I had seen the number "8" on an exposed fold when I first got it, so I figured it had "38" on it to match my hull number. But it turns out it has only "8" on it (both sides of sail). No sign of a "3" ever being there next to the "8". So I'm guessing it's the original Reggie Armstrong main for M17 hull #8...? How it ended up with #38, who knows...if anyone has #8 and wants to claim it for historical purposes, just let me know! ;-) cheers, John -- John Schinnerer - M.A., Whole Systems Design -------------------------------------------- - Eco-Living - Whole Systems Design Services People - Place - Learning - Integration john@eco-living.net - 510.982.1334 http://eco-living.net http://sociocracyconsulting.com
