I too installed a ladder and adjustable motor mount. On each side of the cockpit I put a bomar hatch between my shallow locker and the transom on the seating surface. I can reach far enough back to put a combination wrench on the rudder bolts. While I had the tools out I made a dry run with a socket wrench "breaker bar" and a long extension to determine if I could install a stern light. I am confident that I could do so, or install a pulpit as well. The bolts of the pulpit could not be at the extreme outside edge of the transom but they could be within two or three inches of the edge. The backing plates would have to be fished in place, but I believe this could be accomplished in a short period of time. The Bomar hatches now give me access to previously unusable spaces where I store fenders and dock lines. The hatches are reasonably comfortable to sit on, although I spend most of the time as far forward as the cockpit allows. I can also easily check my rudder, ladder and motor mount bolts.
