Last spring I installed new brass opening ports from NewFound Metals of Port Townsend, WA. (awesome!-pics avail on request) Bones Bowden and I did the install, STAY AWAY from 100% silicone. You want a Polysulfide-based sealant. It bonds best to various surface energy levels, and remains flexible when cured. We used BoatLife, but 3M 100 would work too.
