I would be very nervous if my M-17 ended up upside down, if the swing keel was down (which it usually is) and the boat turned over I can't imagine the swing keel crashing into the keel trunk would be a good thing and then if the boat did become upright, the keel (assuming it is still attached to something would go down pretty hard. We have never been out in our (New to us) Monty 17 in rough conditions yet, but 4 years of sailing on Lake Superior with a Ranger 23, we have been in some exciting weather, even listened to the coast guard as they rescued a group from a capsized catalina 22. --Chad On Feb 26, 2008, at 6:44 PM, JDavies104@aol.com wrote:
As a new M-17 single-handing sailor planning some Chesapeake Bay sailing this season, I'd also be interested in experiences of M-17 sailors in unexpected squalls, etc. Does a knock-down in an M-17 present a danger of swamping? Or (assuming the lockers are secure) does it reliably self-right? Any exciting sea-stories from the old hands?
