I jacked my boat and trailer up several times in the last two years, fortified by the confidence that I gained through this list. My problem was how to deal with a 1500# boat 3 feet in the air with no boatstands and no trailer beneath. I built some oversized sawhorses, called 'em sawmooses, and did this: Blocked the wheels, jacked the tongue up as far as the integral jack would go, placed a cinder block with some pieces of 4x4 under, lowered the tongue jack. Went to the right rear member of the trailer, used a bottle jack, took it up as far as I could go, placed a cinderblock with 4x4 piece on top, lowered the jack. Went to the left rear, did same, went to the tongue, put the bottle jack on some pieces of lumber, took it up as far as I could go, blocked it, went to the right rear... .
Soon, it was up far enough to move my sawmooses into place. I had built them to be just a little wider than the wheels of the trailer. When I had the sawmooses in place, I reversed the raising procedure, the boat stayed aloft, while the trailer came down. I had to remove the rollers from the trailer, and than rolled it out. I braced the boat with some lumber tacked to the sawmooses, and put 4x4 additional support pieces in the center of the crossbars, and worked on the bottom, removed the centerboard, and admired my handiwork. To get the boat back mobile again, I reversed the process. I now have a large set of sawmooses for all my oversized needs. TH.
