Oops, you meant empty boxes. I was thinking density of ethanol at 3/4 that of water, but it would take a lot to float a Montgomery. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Murphy" <seagray@embarqmail.com> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 14, 2009 3:23 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Practical M17 wine stowage
I guess for safety reasons I should start drinking mass quantities of boxed wine so I have plenty of flotation. Good idea Joe. I blow my empty bags up and use them for additional flotation...

I saw a nice bag made from sail that held the wine bag. It could be held up by a loop opposite the corner with the tap hole. Very clever I thought. I have 4 empty 5 litre bags that I filled with water and put just forward of the compression post under the V berth. I could probably put 3 or 4 more (with wine of course) Joe Seafrog M17 651

All,
If this has been covered, forgive me. I like to drink wine aboard our M17. As it happens, the M17 has a perfect, temperature controlled wine cellar integrated in the design. I buy red wine in a box. It ain't great, but you know, after two or three, who cares.
I remove the plastic bag-o-wine from the box, and drop it into the shoal keel cavity. Perfect temperature (especially for red), and easy to get at between death rolls. It even works fine for the occasional bottle of good stuff. t
