Doug- Keep in mind that a larger jib (genoa) will need to be sheeted on the rail, outboard of the shrouds, and that the sheeting angle would be wider, but acceptable. if you have intentions of doing any racing, be aware that a headsail over 155% carries a penalty in the rating. If you sail where there are frequent drifters, a 155 drifter might be a good sail. Be sure and have the sailmaker use a pretty hi clew so that the sail will be sheeted further aft, narrowing the sheeting angle. If you sail in frequent heavy air, the 15 does very well with a storm jib. In a good blow the 15 will go like hell with a small jib, with the main reefed as needed. Years ago, in Mexico (Sea of Cortez) I sailed a week straight in 25-30 knot winds with a storm jib; I was the smallest boat in the group and kept up with everyone. -----Original Message----- From: doug Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2018 11:10 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: boarding ladder I appreciate the feedback on my questions about the drop keel being down versus up and on using the jib. I only sailed with the main to see what happened. The boat sailed ok but not well and I will certainly use it all the time. Eventually I would love to get a larger jib too for the light winds.

To follow on (hit send to soon).
Boat should have bot main a jib up. Her ability under main or jib alone is very poor.
I talk of this on my old M15's www-site -

Dave… Do you think that the M-15 can be sailed fairly well without the drop keel in the down position, if need be. Just wondering since I did just that the other day on a nearby lake. I sailed for hours in 10kts with the board up. The boat still pointed well and without that ballast I did have to shift positions on tacks more than usual but that was ok. Just wondering. I also sailed without the jib just to see how the boat responded and it did well. I was surprised how well it pointed without the jib. At slower speeds it was obviously harder to turn across the wind on a jibe but with a little boat speed up it still jibed and tacked just fine.

I'm assuming you mean machine screws (aka bolts) with backing plates, fender washers and nyloc nuts?
I like the Garelick/EEz-In 18017:01 Compact Transom Ladder as it uses four attachment points and is unlikely to pull out of the transom (seen it happen!).

What is the best boarding ladder to use on a M-15. I would like one that attaches to the boat via screws. Thanks
