Bones. You don't need to read anything about simple sheet to tiller steering. You see, it's simple. Now if you don't understand the basics or you just like to read about several self steering systems. that's another thing. I put it on the factory Fin keeled 17 that was arguably less directionally stable then the more common keel/centerboarder. one piece of bungee(or surgical tube) one line and 1 block. is all that's needed for experimenting and tuning and playing and having fun. I sailed for about 1/4 of a mile and that's all the time for learning curve, head scratching adjusting and understanding what was going on. The system won't go down wind, but others will. chop and or light air makes it grumpy, and it won't go all the way hard on the wind but in smooth water steady breeze it's close. When you get the setup figured out, you can make or improve the parts for easier adjustment for different wind velocities and angle. 1st day keep it dumb and simple. Remember to under trim the main a bit, like a bit of a bubble in the luff. This is key. After that 1/4 mile of adjustments I took a nap and awoke to Simon's need for a BM. There my have been beer aboard, I don't remember.
