I agree with Todd's perception of self righting. I think it should be kept in mind that it is normally assumed the boat is being sailed in the waters it was designed for. If the horizontal surface happens to be 60 degrees to the horizon because it's part of a monster, blue water wave, I don't think it counts for a Montgomery! That said, in the 2+ years I've been keeping up with Montgomery lore, I've never heard of one turtling, or even coming close. They're great boats.

but I take the term to mean that if a boat is "knocked down" with it's mast horizontal or
possibly touching the water that it will right itself. The unballasted dinghies I've sailed
all seemed to want to go on over at that point unless the crew is doing something like
standing on the centerboard.
