Sure, mount the rudder on dry land at the ramp. Raise it so it will not catch on the ramp, use a tiller minder to keep the rudder amidships and then back it in. I have launched the 17 scores of times just like that and it works fine. Hi John, My rudder has gudgeons and pintles, not sliding rod. Send me your personal email address and I will send you some pics of the rudder. I don' t seem to be able to post pics on this website. Thanks, Tom B <

Hi Tom,
I'd like some pix if you've got some that show it well. The Ruddercraft is way out of my budget...this might be a bit more within it!
Where are you (zip code) for estimating shipping?
Is this the "original" up-down sliding rod rudder from M-17's?
thanks, John S.

To whom it may concern, I have the old style Ida Rudder on my 17 and plan to sell it for their newer version. If a kickup rudder is all you want than that is what this is. It uses a line to raise the bottom half of the rudder, I use it to hold the rudder blade up just a bit when launching and retrieving the boat. Asking $250 plus shipping. I started with the stock wooden rudder and the shape of this Ida rudder really does seem to add to the performance of the boat. Pictures upon request. Fair winds, Tom B <
