WrinkleBoat Sailors, A hearty Thank You to all the participants and folk who helped make the 2015 event a success! Thanks to the Arizona Yacht Club and the Race Committee for running a set of races to our requests - TLE.s adjusted per Fleet and our 'El Grande Tour Sprint' - well the breeze tried to cooperate but we had about 1/2 the course covered with breeze on Sunday morning - (why don't we start EARLIER??) Next year we will see what can be done - Nice beat up and around Horse and Balance Rock islands for most of the Fleet and one hellishly long slooowww runreachrunjibereachrunbeatrunotherjibe leg down to 'No Name Island' where the course was thankfully shortened by the best looking R/C boat with an 'S' flag I have seen in a month or two! Dinner was an improvement on Saturday night - our fearless Leader Mr. Jerry Montgomery (yeah the boat guy) and crew John Owens from Troup TX were awarded the Leukemia Cup trophy for Saturday's performance besting the fleet - congratulations and THANKS to all who supported the Leukemia/ Lymphoma Society. Someboy has offered up next years 'Private Label Fleet BBQ' - watch for details! Saturday was spectacular............weather for sitting on the porch reading a book in shorts and a t-shirt......not so great for sailing as high pressure dominated the region and 'Hoovered' all chance of a breeze for the most part! (whadda they say - you paz yer $ an takz yer chances) Paul Bear had his M-17S screamin' in the wind-void conditions until the end of the day - a bad start cost them the regatta! Sunday they recovered and won in the light stuff again. PaintBoy was instrumental in supporting yours truly with a pack of REAL Ding Dongs for Sat. lunch - you da man - were those InterLux Ding Dongs with Akzo No Speed Coating?? Marty B. - a newcomer to the event - showed moments of serious speed and gave Doug K and Bernard P. fits! All three met with success and TLE*s !! (Time Limit Expired - awarded to boats finishing later than 20 minutes behind the second boat to finish the race - lest we still be out there waiting for the second race to end!....-really) Scoring in the 15' Fleet was as close as we have had I believe - good tight racing (albeit SLOOOw) Phil McK and Dave S. duked it out - and Dave almost (twice on one leg) slapped the 'old man' down a notch - -but treachery and old age prevailed again over youth and skill - Gerry W. showed some excellent speed and would da been a contender - - but Sunday had other plans for him and his good looking 17 that did not include 'yacht drifting' ! Nice job gents - and Mary!! Phil and Mary supported the Fleet with their cheery persona - a woman's touch and some damn good home brew - Go Boise State! The Glesser's sailed well and we hope to see them in a New Boat for 2016!! Marty Chokany - ex employee of Monkey Yachts and Thee Sailing Stooges back in 'the day' - when MOST great and some < than great were built on 17th, & 18th streets 'hood of Costa Mesa - was my crew for the weekend - We had met 30 years earlier when Marty was delivering boats to the family biz - but we hit it off again and had a great time 'skidding' around the lake! Marty was excellent at 'focus' when my complacency would reign - Marty would perk up and say -' lets try this' and away we would squirt for 8 or 10 feet! A great addition to my sailing & friends -Thanks Marty! - we'll have a helmet for you next time (Marty is kinda tall !!) To those that had plans that didn't quite work - we missed you, and hope to see you out next time! Thanks to Dave Scobie, Sage Marine, Montgomery Rigging, Spyderco Knives for your support and assistance in rounding up the 'chickens - Rubber Chickens!' Henry Rodriguez and his bride stopped by and visited - Doug K was kind enough and sacrificed ALL his speed on Saturday by taking Henry out for the 'white knuckle ride' on his M-15GK! Thanks to Doug for making a visitor feel welcome!! Good to see you again Henry!! Nels and Diane were in attendance, up on the hill in the coach - drinking adult beverages and playing cards watching from afar - I got a daily report! BTW - Marty kept me awake and had the boat moving most of the time to allow us to finish second, second, second - which was good enuf for first - Thanks and -Way to go Marty! (Jerry M and Paul B. each had First Place finishes for the weekend - good job mates.) CLose racing - SLOW but close - see the scoring - pretty da*M close heh? Thanks to All the Fleet - you make the event. NewsFlash - Next Year the event will be the WashboardBoat Intergalactic Championship Regatta as the patriarch of the Fleet says - 'yeah I do my wash on the topsides every once in awhile.' - this works great as the WICR &R-T acronym need not be modified....there will be a Private Fleet BBQ - possible Rendezvous - we will see what happens.
