We did not specifically do the Maine Island trail but covered much of the same area and saw a few of thier campsites.
http://members.cox.net/dkelch/Maine%2005%20part1.htm is a web page about the trip that includes the charts and routes followed. If you overlay the Maine Island trail you will see that it goes through Fox Island Thoughoghfare and Merchants row and some of the other areas.
It is a great trip for the M15 and M17s.

The other way is to sail downcoast, which might be easier as it's in the direction of alongshore current. Anyway, any thought and comment is appreciated!
