Hi Judy, thank you for pitching in on this conversation. I looked on the sailrite site and what you describe about a sail slug seems to fit their product #23329, an all nylon slug with rocker, an inch long @.48 each, or the next larger size # 23313, a 13/32 diameter slug, 1.3 inches long with ss loop and rocker @1.65 each. Sounds like the better one would be the one inch long item because of possible jamming in the slot. Thanks for the tip about the tack. Perhaps a boom bail installed aft of the present tack to make up for the aft placement of the main will work. I am still waiting for your price on the 7/8 hoist, high cut 80% "blade" jib for my Monty that we spoke of a couple of weeks ago. Have you had a chance to consider that number yet? Tom, I use A017 (9 mm diameter) or A017S (8mm diameter) for Montgomery mainsails. They are 25mm tall (1 inch) and have a rocker to them that helps prevent binding when raising and lowering the sail. I wouldn't use the Allslip A117 on a Monty sail.. The A177 is the right diameter (8.5mm), but the rest of the shape is wrong for the application. Allslip A107 is designed to be used with full battens that are in significant compression against the mast. They're not appropriate for use with partial battens. They are 1.5 inches tall, which makes the stack too high for a 17 foot boat. They are more likely to bind than A017(s)s. You'll want to do something at the tack as well, because you're moving the luff aft when you put slugs on it. If you don't , there will be a wrinkle between the tack and the first slug. Thanks, Steve. The website you mentioned was very informative. Looks like the "allslip" slugs might be worth a try.

Slug diameters are measured in fractions of an inch. I think I ordered 3/8" for my M17. If you go to sailrite.com you can see the different sizes and options.

Would someone tell me what size slugs to specify to a sailmaker when I have slugs placed on my mainsail? Is measuring as simple as sliding a wooden dowel into the track and then measuring the diameter of the dowel in fractions of an inch or is there some sort of industry jargon like gauge as in wire size or shotgun pellet size or.....? Thanks, Tom B
