Some people in the marina where we keep our M17 take the popular sail it vs maintain approach. Lots of parties and gray teak and rust-stained topsides. Pretty sad boats, but they seem to have a great time. Unfortunately (or fortunately--your choice) here in the inland northwest we have about seven months of sailing (in a good year) and five months to fiddle with projects. The M sailors here sail hard during the season and maintain at least moderately hard in the off season. You'd be surprised the little glitches I find and fix so they don't bite my ass in the spring.
