There's the old joke about the two boat builders having lunch- #1 said "What would you do if someone gave you a million dollars"? #2 answered "I'd just put it my business until it was all gone". jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stan Susman" <stanpfa@pacbell.net> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2011 10:24 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: How do you make a million dollars in the boatbusiness.? I break em and fix em,break em and fix em. Smart guys never build, they just buy what they want and go sailing. I'm just not that smart.. --- On Thu, 3/24/11, GILASAILR@aol.com <GILASAILR@aol.com> wrote: From: GILASAILR@aol.com <GILASAILR@aol.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: How do you make a million dollars in the boat business.? Many are available to be built in kit form by ham fisted/ finger cutting/ wood butchers like myself. Pride of construction there. Then there is also that issue called 'freight'. How many on the list have/are/plan on building their own small (or large) boat? There is SO much variety available, so inexpensively and easily well built by amateurs today. It is a tough market and the margins (even builder/direct sales) are small. I don't think I EVER made money in 30 some years selling new 'small' boats at the retail level. 'Small' being 13 feet and shorter in this case. I once sold 11 M-10 s and got to keep the 12th for myself! WOW! Wondering what others think? GO - former marine industry worker I never lost a million, but I was Zero$ broke twice - overall made a good+ living for my family, but not based on new sales. Money was in resale, repair and storage. _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats When posting, remember that there is no privacy on the Internet! _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats When posting, remember that there is no privacy on the Internet! -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
