Smiley, I've sailed in both locations. If you're looking for more open space, then Sandy Point, next to the BB is the place to be. If you're looking for a less populated area that you can mess around in while you become accustomed to your new boat, then Ft. Armistead is a better option. Be careful of the power boaters!!! They have no respect for us blow boaters!! Stay away from the Middle River area and Heart-Miller Island. It's a power boaters heaven. I finished working on my M-10, enough to take her out for her maiden voyage yesterday. I wasn't out long, since I had my 2.5 yr old with me. He loves the outdoors and this was his first boat ride. I forgot how fun a sailing dinghy was. Very nimble and responsive to the wind and weight. You gotta quick on your toes in an M-10 when the wind blows!! I wasn't able to take any pictures, since I had my hands full with the tiller, the sheet and a toddler. Maybe next time? I still have work to do on the hull. I sanded down the gelcoat and varnished all the wood. I bought a new mast and running rigging. After a season of fun, I plan to restore the gelcoat. I also have plans to install teak slats on the benches. I think it will add a more custom, classic looking dinghy!! Enjoy the sailing tomorrow. I'm sure you will have a blast!!! Never did we raise a mast in a head wind. This applied to he Prindle 19 as well the Prindle 16 we sailed. I am making mental notes on hat needs to be done in launching my Monty 15 tomorrow for her maiden oyage either at Ft Armistead Park off the Patapsco River or Sandy Point tate Park off the Chesapeake Bay. Dr. Judy B tells me my new Hyde sails should be here soon J so a few sails ith my stock HP sails should give me a good idea what I just bought.
