Thanks Don. I think I need to actually see something on a similarly size sailboat to set up the hardware on my M-15 boom. Folsom lake here in Sacramento valley is the closest. Time for a lake visit. Thanks again. ----Hey Jerry M....are you listening? ---Larry .....hull # 189 (1981) -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces+larry.hughston=dgs.ca.gov@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces+larry.hughston=dgs.ca.gov@mailman.xmiss ion.com] On Behalf Of Don Haas Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2006 8:47 AM To: Montgomery Subject: RE: M_Boats: yesterday's sail This question goes along with Bobbie's question about boom location, I think. There are several San Juan 21s where my M15 is moored. The SJs have a rope bridals similar to the M15 set up, but the bridal is knotted in the middle to keep the boom centered. Several had added lines and blocks to simulate a traveler. Basically, the fiddle block between the boom and bridal had a lower becket. Lines attached at the becket ran to port and starboard rails to and though a block to a cleat. By lengthening one line and shortening the other, it looked like you could adjust and lock the boom position. Hopefully that explains it. The question is - would this set up provide make any sense on the M15, enough at any rate to make it worthwhile to do? I have a 150 and CDI FF1 roller furling. I haven't got any hard mph numbers, but there is a noticeable difference in acceleration and speed between the jib sized sail (to the shrouds) and the full genny. My genoa track is mounted on the cockpit combing, but I think it would be better to mount the track on the teak rail if that's possible. My second favorite moment when sailing is feeling the boat respond when the genny is unfurled and trimmed in. The best moment is turning off the motor... Don M15-248

Isn't funny that someone would have invested so much money in a large yacht yet not know enough to trim their sails at least little better than that!
That reminds me of another question- where do you M15 owners find the best speed when you trim the mainsail? (location of the boom.)
And another question- for those who have genoas, where did you buy them, how much, and how much more speed does that give you in a light wind?
Bobbie
