Howard and Bones, you both responded to my questions about my tranducer problems, thanks. Bones, I am not brave enough to undertake removing the transducer mushrooms for the hull. Maybe after a few more years of working on my boat. If I can't make them work for me, I think I'll just leave them in. Of course there are the o-rings to deteriorate in there. Thanks for mentioning Navman. I'll look into that.... Howard, how does your gps get the info for depth? Do you now have a through-hull transducer, or does some sensor read right through the hull material? What brand(s) are you using for this alternative? By the way, that dinghy is a beautiful piece of craftwork. If you get ideas about self-bailing for the forward section, I hope you post them. Thanks for the response. The hardest part was getting the old transducer mushrooms out of the hull. Bones _________The knotmeter that came with my boat was a Horizon analog. It didn't work well, nor did the replacement I got from Horizon. Will register that you are moving, but not even close to being reliable for anything you would normally use a knot meter for. Bad news is, there is a BIG hole in the bottom of your boat. The knot meter transducer is installed with a plastic flange from the outside. Knot meter transducer plugs the hole from the inside, and the thing that seals it is an O ring. It's held in place by a wire clip. You really can't remove it unless you are willing to do the glass work (or hire someone to do it) to plug the hole. So basically, it's just there. A much better speed option is a GPS.....not something they had available back then. My GPS has a depth finder integrated into the unit. Best of both worlds.
