Well, mud from the bottom, covering your anchor rode and chain can be a very "fragrant" commodity . You don't want that perfuming the inside of the boat as it dries. (and leaving the dried mud in your bilge)
So, have a long handled brush on board, that you can use to clean your rode and anchor chain before it goes inside.
Leave the mud outside and in the water, then stow the clean rode and chain.

Hi all, I was wondering if ypu could enlighten me on these parts. I believe the small round piece is to pass anchor line through from beneath. The large piece is obviously anchor related, but it's interesting shape leads me to believe it's more than just a giant anchor cleat. What's it called? What does it do? Thanks!
