If you trailer the design accommodates quick removal and attachment. If you leave the boat at a slip or mooring with the sail on you might want to consider his permanent design. I have used both and favor the permanent design as I keep the sail on except when trailing

If these devices keep the slugs from dropping out when you lower the sail to reef, I don't see how you can do without them. I fabricated a gate to do the same thing, but it was probably a lot more work and not as slick.
