We just had a sailmaker install slugs after we couldn't get the sail down without removing the boom. We were hoisting the sails in our "dry run" and it was just impossible to get the sail down as far as it needed to go. We didn't want it to happen again. The reason I'm asking is when I lower my sails when reefing ,or going to motor , I have to reinstall the bolt rope .So I was thinking of mabe going to slugs and a mastgate .
