The Laser blocks
There's nothing actually wrong with a Laser vang, but because it's such a tightly controlled class they've been using the same components for... oh, thirty-odd years that I know of. They're no longer the best. In fact, just about every (beat-up) Laser that I've sailed has had the same problem with the jam cleat on the vang block -- it doesn't jam (although it does chew up the line something chronic). I think a better solution would be one of the small blocks with integrated cam cleats. Probably cheaper, too, since class-legal Laser parts are expen$ive. BTW: Nothing against the Laser. It's a lovely little boat, and I'd love to have one... Giles Morris Arlington VA Montgomery 15 #264 "Umiaq" Vancouver 25 #002 Dolphin Sundry small craft (but no Laser -- yet)
