Sean, Sounds perfect! Sailing 1/2 way down the lake and turning back makes the most sense. Thanks for doing all the great detective work! By the way, enjoyed your Cannes Film Festival award winning San Juan sailing video :-) I think my M15 would be uncomfortably small for that many days of cruising and camping for my wife and I but someday hope to try an abbreviated version where we sail to the Rosario resort, stay there for several nights and use as a base of operations for day sailing around the islands. The have made a proposal for us to move the event to their facilities, after I approached them again. I tried to do this last year but their room rates were WAY high ($239.00/night) and they would not throw in a boat slip( Additional $40/night). This year...different story. The resort is very, very nice and has their own protected slips right in front of the Hotel and beside the London Bridge. No matter what the weather their slips are protected. Although I love the beach atmosphere of the Nautical Inn, their lack of docks for the boats is a huge issue. Especially since early estimates are that we may be 30+ boats strong this year! Running the event out of the London Bridge Resort will allow everyone to launch their boat, slip it, have the trailer/truck parked in a blacktop parking lot with the boat read to go right out in front of the hotel, Give us access to numerous restaurants, great views of the Bridge, allow us to have a little "show and shine" style boat show one evening, have a protected place to go if the wind comes up strong, etc, etc, etc. It's really a no-brainer. The proposal is that rooms will be $99.00/night including your slip with no resort fees. (remember the Nautical was $79.00 with a $15.00 resort fee). There is a free public boat ramp we can use at the back of the island or you can pay $10 and use the marina's ramp which is a little closer to the hotel. The Hotel also has a Pool/patio/bar overlooking the Channel and the boats and they have indicated that they can serve dinner out there if the weather is cooperative. It should be a great deal. I will scope it all out tomorrow and take some pics and video. Sailing all the way to Havasu Springs is still up in the air. They will not be able to house 30 boats worth of folks overnight. If you remember last year we had to run some folks back up to Havasu 'cause we booked everything they had. It's too far to sail the round trip in one day and enjoy it. I have talked to them about us sailing down on Sat, slipping all the boats for the evening, eating dinner there, and then having a 50 passenger tour bus run us back up to the London Bridge Resort for the evening and return us in the morning. It's a good plan except for the bus thing. Prices I have gotten for the bus are approaching $300 each way! Yikes. I guess that are basing that on 50 people at about $6 a person , which I suppose is reasonable sounding in that respect but still not optimal. It really breaks up the evening and I don't know bout you but a 25 minute bus ride Sunday morning doesn't "float my boat". So we may modify the Poker run to head down the lake to about the halfway mark, say around Black Meadow landing, and then do a 180 and end up back at the BIG COMFY WARM HOTEL again....(that's for the gals!) :-) So that's where we are at. Sounds like we are going to pick up a couple of extra GREAT sponsors. Should be a great year. We are still 5 months out and a lot of stuff is still in the planning stages. But the dates are Feb 11-15 and it looks like the London Bridge Resort is the place. Don't make any reservations yet till everything is firmed up , so you get the group deal. Another cool deal is that the week you will be here, there is a HUGE fireworks convention here. Fireworks of every type are launched at the south end of town till 10pm every night, with a full show on Sat night. That's it so far..
