You are well under the tow rating for your car (newest generation Subarus have increased tow rating vs. my old one) and can tow an M15 pretty much anywhere you want with it...just sayin'...don't worry. If you have an automatic trans then I can't say what towing will do to your trans life, other than you're well under your tow rating. If you have a manual, the only extra wear on clutch is mostly pulling out on boat ramps, and a tiny bit starting in first gear on normal terrain. Other than that, when clutch is in you have a solid driveline from engine to wheels and unless you're massively over-loading the drivetrain (not happening in your situation) it's not going to have a significant effect on your trans life. For most of us, towing is a small percentage of total driving mileage on our tow vehicles anyhow. cheers, John On 7/7/19 11:54 AM, Rusty Knorr via montgomery_boats wrote:
I tow my M-15 with a 2016 Subaru Outback, and I get around 26mpg while towing. Although I was super nervous about it, not having any towing experience, it has handled it fine so far. That being said, I know I’m shortening the lifespan of the clutch and transmission, it’s an inevitable result of towing. And I’m definitely keeping to lowland towing! Much as I would like to, I don’t see myself taking it over the mountains, it’s not worth the risk to me, or the wear on the car.
