I have an Ida Sailor Rudder, works great. Also have the optional Mast Crutch attachment, so I don't have to take the rudder off, on occasion I have forgotten to take the mast crutch off, but still sailed fine, just looked a little strange. Up sailing on Lake Superior last week, took the boat over on the ferry and while preparing to launch from the Madeline Island marina and some guy who works there comes running over to compliment on the M17 and how good of shape it was in...(its only two years old), he then told me that he used to rig them when they were being sold through Sailboats Inc. out of Superior Wis. back in the late seventies and always thought they were awesome boats and very well constructed. I agreed with him and said that this was actually my second M17. Had a great time sailing out around the island. It is a well made rudder and I have only minor criticism, that being that the factory varnish job leaves a lot to be desired. The blade hold down takes a little getting used to, but that mastered, I've received good service from my rudder. It is very long and a bit of a hand full when it is not hanging from the transom. Add about six coats of good varnish and you'll have a very good looking, long lasting rudder. Before I do I wanted to ask the group if they thought the product o be a good one. I just purchased M17 #600. She has a wood kick up rudder ow and a back up solid one piece rudder (quite an impressive piece of ood!!!). Looking forward to reading your opinions!
