I mentioned this to a few folks at Havasu, but think it’s worthy of a broader audience. On my way to Havasu, I had a very interesting, though brief, conversation at a rest area on I-10 west of Phoenix. When I came out of the restroom, there was an older couple standing next to my boat obviously waiting to talk to me. After asking about the boat, the gentleman introduced himself as Patrick Ellam, age 91, and explained that he and Colin Mudie were the first to sail a small (19’) boat across the Atlantic, in 1951! The boat was named Sopranino as was book he wrote about the voyage. Sopranino was also a wrinkle boat, clinker-built from 3/8” mahogany. I had heard of the book, but not read it. Of course, I bought a copy on Amazon. He and his wife (I presume) had a Casita travel trailer and were headed to a Casita rendezvous in Quartzite. I could relate more of the the Sopranino story, but it would be from the book and then you won’t need to buy a copy. Bill Riker M15 – #184 Storm Petrel
