Ya, Keith's M12 on the Funtigo site: He did a gorgeous restoration! His boat inspired me to buy this one. This boat I bought from the Cleveland owner is in very nice shape, especially for a '74. The hull has been repainted dark blue. According to Jerry and Cliff, the 12' is quite the little rocket. I can see that, as it's a very light boat with narrow beam and NINETEEN-FOOT mast . . . I don't know how many square feet of sail she carries, but this one is sloop-rigged. To be honest, I don't know how I'm going to use this 12' . . . I was actually in the market for a more sedate little leisure craft . . . Keep your eyes peeled if you have regrets, Rick or Tod, because if this boat proves too much for me (I have some physical limitations, and I just ain't that good a sailor), I'll put her back on the market. But this boat was close, was priced right and was a Montgomery (!), so I decided to snatch it up and find out first-hand whether it was the boat for me . . . Had it been another Sunfish, whatever, I woulda let it sit while I did more research, but given that only 200 of these were built and most of them are probably still on the West Coast, and given that this boat was posted on a mailing list for Montgomery fanatics, I decided to buy first, ask questions later . . . If anyone in addition to Jerry Montgomery, Cliff Sojourner, Keith Harris or Fred Stout has insights to share about the 12', I'd love to have them at chonshell@ia4u.net . . . Jerry, Cliff, Keith and Fred, If you have more you'd like to add to what we discussed off-list, I'd appreciate hearing from you again, and thanks again for the feedback thus far. Hey Craig and Tod, I was tempted by that M12 too. It looks like a nice boat for the price he was asking. I'm glad you got it Craig. Will you use it as a dink in addition to a sailboat? That boat planes right? I too have more boats than I have storage, but that M12 on the MSOG photo site is sweet looking. Let us know how it sails! So today I drove to Ohio and bought 1974 Montgomery 12' number 58 . . . Thanks again to those who posted notices for it on the list. The former owner was fantastic: Replaced the trailer lights and repacked the axle bearings, trailered the boat to a halfway point between Cleveland, OH and Lansing, MI, and loaned me his license plate and what must be an out-of-print account of an epic small-boat voyage. Montgomery owners. They're good people. --Craig F. Honshell 1984 M17 #389 1974 M12 #58
