First time out this year, later than desired for various reasons but glad to get her on the water. Launched at Emigrant lake just minutes away (I live in Ashland, OR) from home. Busy warm Sunday, lots of testosterone boats zooming around pushing up some chop to enjoy from time to time. Typical lake sailing, winds variable and shifty but enough to keep moving decently in the afternoon with some gusts to verify she still rounds up nicely if necessary. Anchored in a small cove for a swim and lunch partway through the afternoon. Girlfriend Judy and sailing pal Keith (Ranger 20) along for the day. Steered with the newly installed slide up rudder I got from Rick...that project being part of the delay in getting sailing...works well, thanks Rick! Some other sailboats out too - a beautiful wooden 16 1/2 ft.camp-cruiser (sail-row, centerboard, yawl rig with small mizzen & gaff main). A sunfish off in the distance. Some other sloop-rigged dingy didn't get close enough to ID. A beautifully preserved old Capri 14.2 with sloop rig - a teen boy and his younger brother taking their first "solo" without "Grandpa" on board. Unfortunately, mid-tack apparently, the screws holding the base of their tabernacle sheared off after about 10 minutes and they were dismasted and had to be towed back. Nobody hurt and no other major damamge...just a dunking and some frustration at the short sail & repairs needed. cheers, John S. -- John Schinnerer - M.A., Whole Systems Design -------------------------------------------- - Eco-Living - Whole Systems Design Services People - Place - Learning - Integration john@eco-living.net - 510.982.1334 http://eco-living.net http://sociocracyconsulting.com
