At least Poseidon softened the blow with a cold Fosters . . . Rick On Tue, Dec 22, 2015 at 9:59 PM, Conbert Benneck <chbenneck@gmail.com> wrote:

: Rick,
When I was about 85, Poseidon visited me at the lake where I sailed one day, and after giving me a cold FOSTERS beer, asked me how long I thought I could continue sailing.
I had to admit that stepping the mast, and putting the outboard on the mount, and loading all the things in the M15 was getting harder and harder to do when the outside air temperature was 88 degrees F..
Then Poseidon asked if my wife, with two hip joint replacements still liked to go sailing? I had to admit that she didn't feel secure on a twisting finger pier at the Marina anymore.
So, that fall I sold our M15 to a young couple who are now sailing our boat on Lake Champlain.
I don't have a boat anymore, but still have lots of memories of sailing down the English Channel from Holland to Le Havre. Sailing in the Med, crossing the Adriatic several time and exploring the Yugoslavian island chain, and spending weeks sailing in the Danish Islands and in the Stockholm archipelago.
Sailing is a great sport, and the older you get the more experience you have: (always have at least 3 anchors on board).
Ciao,
Connie
Pushing 80, I look at 65-year-old friends as wet behind the ears. Guess I
look the same to you. Hope I have a few good years left at the tiller!

Thanks Rick,
As a youngster, back in the early '30s, I was in St. Augustine, FL and saw and tasted the water in the "Fountain of Youth"
For the record: I'm now 95 and it doesn't work!
I could use some "youth" today so that I could go sailing again, but now I look at Off Center Harbors lovely videos and wish I could be on board too; or start building another boat. Ah well, I still have lots of memories of good; and not so good sailing days .....
Ciao, Connie
We've never met, Connie, but you're a ray of sunshine for all of us.
Hope when it comes my turn to swallow the anchor (and it can't be all that long now) I can do it with your grace and good humor.
Happy Holidays,

Hi gang,
With most of your boats all nestling under winter covers or in a quiet garage and dreaming of a springtime with sparkling blue water, and sunshine; with filled sails on a nice beam reach; a happy gurgling bow wave; and their owners and children on board enjoying themselves; we'd like to add to this and wish you all Happy Sailing and Pleasant Adventures in 2016.
May you always have a hands-breadth of water under your keel / and may you always have fair winds on all your sailing courses and in your life.
