As for sailing chacteristics, I have saild both Griselda (fin keel) when she was my brothers and a friends CB version. Griselda is a lot stiffer due to the lower ballast in the keel bulb, stands on her feet better and will carry more sail for a given wind condition. On a nice windy afternoon, we tried Griselda against the friends C/B M17 and I crewed on both boats. They were prettty well matched downwind in moderate wind but as the wind increased, Griselda showed us her heels. Going to windward, Griselda was closer winded and could do 5 tacks to the 6 the other boat needed to cover the same distance. Side by side at about 50 degrees to the wind, Griselda was the faster boat. In one area, the other guy was able to beat us out as he raised his CB and rudder and crossed a shoal we didn't dare attempt. The fin keel was the origonal Lyle Hess design and the Keel C/B was a later compromise to make the boat more trailerable to meet market demand. I am sure Bill Montgomery can comment further on this. What is the depth required to launch? Is launching contingent on tide levels? Is launching an issue vs. the CB model? It would appear that FK model require a much steeper ramp angle or allowing boat/trailer to quite a bit deeper than CB model - again, just my perception. Interested to know what the difference is in launching / retrieving vs. CB model. Is ramp angle a concern when launching vs. CB model?> > Thanks,> Carlos> > BTW - after you provide insight on above, feel free to talk about the sailing characteristics of FK vs. CB. I am sure you will enjoy sharing this insight!!!! :) :) > _______________________________________________> http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
