Let me know when you're ready for another sail. I can sail to Sea Gate in a couple of hours. Friends of mine sailed back from Ocracoke and said they had 15+ winds out on the Sound. Only had 5-6 knots for part of the day On 10/22/11, Joe Murphy <seagray@embarqmail.com> wrote:
Mike, Where did you launch? The week before had nice winds, mostly N to NE. There's still plenty of sailing weather left..... Joe-- got out to Adams Creek. Not much wind though. Lots of Wildlife.

Mike, Did you ever get your Columbus Holiday sail in? I trailered SeaFrog to Atlantic and joined two other sailboats the previous week. The squeeters were like a snow storm. Spread my DNA all over Core Sound. Had a nice overnighter. I still can't get all rigged up and launched in less than two and a half hours. But I had to allow extra time for hooking up all the shrouds and stays that I took off during Irene. Hi Joe-- It turns out that I'll only have time for a one night trip on the Columbus Holiday. With only one night, Turnagain Bay is probably too far.
If you are still interested I could meet you at either the Highway 101 bridge over the ICW or at the mouth of Adams Creek. I haven't had a chance to visit Clubfoot Creek or sail into Hancock Creek next to Cherry Point NAS. I've seen Hancock from shore and there is a small sheltered anchorage there.
Let me know if this works for you.
Cheers, Mike Murphy

Mike, Great Idea!! I'm familiar with the Nuese River/Clubfoot/South River areas. From there it's a great sail over to Oriental. The South River has great anchorage areas as is Back Creek off of Adams Creek or Clubfoot (I have friends there) I've not yet been to Turnagain Bay or Long Bay. I have friends that live down east and I've asked them for some 'local' knowledge of the area. Joe-- I'm trying to put together a 1-2 night cruise over Columbus Day Weekend )Sunday to Monday or Tuesday). Area is either Albemarle Sound/Elizabeth City or the lower Nuese River/Clubfoot/South River/Turnagain Bay/Long Bay.
