I like to hoist the main loosely, then use my weight to push down on the boom while securing the downhaul. This beats trying to tension the luff by sweating up on the halyard. Jim M-17 "Spirit" On Nov 9, 2008, at 12:03 PM, Joe Murphy wrote:
My 2c's.. I have no trouble raising the main without any help from a winch. I spray the track with SailKote and have no problems at all. I am doing modifications to my boat this fall which include leading both halyards to the cockpit and the topping lift as well. I have the hardware on the starboard for the topping lift and jib halyard but have a question about the main halyard. Unlike later models my 1975 has no winch on the port cabin top for the main halyard. What advice can you all give me as far as adding one? Nice to have, necessary?
Thanks in advance!
