I have a 4 horse on my 17, it handles ok in moderate wind and current, as we get in Galveston Bay, (Texas).. If you deal with high wind and/or current and to some degree boat "traffic" a 6 or 8 horse would be better. I think current is the higher priority issue to consider and wind secondary as current has a stronger effect on your boat. Look at similar boats in design and weight and see what others in your area are using. Howdy, Would a Honda 2 HP 4 cycle be enough motor for an aux. on the M-17, I like the size 28 lbs or the next size 5 HP at 61 lbs , but would that be to heavy and effect the sailing performance. Thanks, Larry
