Hi Bert, Like Rick, I installed a hatch on the port side of the cockpit seat, aft of the sail locker . I did this to gain access for mounting a lift motor mount. Installing the lift mount then became very easy with good access so that I could install a backing plate plus reach all the fasteners. Later, the area, now easily accessible, became the hidey-hole for storing my cleaning bucket, and cleaning materials. T'ain't hard to do and is a big improvement. Just be sure that the dimensions of the rectangular hatch you want to buy match the space available aft of the sail locker lid before you start to cut... Connie ex M15 #400 LEPPO. Rick Langer wrote:

If you're going to start cutting holes, you might want to consider a hatch at the aft end of the horizontal surface of the starboard seat. This will give you access to the transom and provide additional storage. I have one there and use the space to store all my headsails. It's very convenient.

Hello Jerry and Bob
After selling my M 15 about twelve years ago, I purchase another one, #365,a 1986 model last year. They are great boats. I have one question about mounting a stern ladder. My wife and I can't fit down the starboard side in order to fasten the backing plate, fender washers, and nuts which will hold the ladder. If I install an inspection plate in the transom, will it weaken the boat? Should I install one in the center or a total of two, each on the transom above the seats?
