Hi Gordon. Welcome to the list. How long have you had your M17 and where are you located? As far as GPS goes, we use a Garmin 78s. You could use an Iphone with the Navionics chart app. Could also use an Ipad (needs to be 3G or 4G to have full GPS, but you don't need to activate the data plan). Ipad might be a bit large for use in an Mboat. Fact is, most of our Mboat sailing is line of sight, or conning. We keep a paper chart in a plastic sleeve in the cockpit for reference and mostly use the GPS for checking speed, time to next waypoint. Sometimes use it in tight channels to get a larger scale view of hazards. We were out for 2 weeks in August and did not use the GPS more than 1/4 of the time sailing. 116 nautical miles, lots of gunkholing.
