Hi Brian, Just a word of caution about using the OB for steering if you don't have the rudder in place. Yes, it works. But.......... the minute you cut the engine you have no more steering capability. If you are out in open waters that is no problem. I learned it the hard way as I was trying to retrieve the boat and load it on the trailer. I came from my slip to the launch ramp, cut the motor to coast to the trailer - and look Ma, no more steering! My thought for your problem would be to have a scissors type boom crutch, which will hold the mast in the down position while you motor out under your bridge with OB and rudder in place. After passing the bridge you can raise the mast - as per the suggestions of other M-site members - and then stow the boom crutch. Meanwhile you have total boat control OB running or not. Another thought: keep the mainsail furled on the boom. Then when you raise the mast, all you have to do is slide the boom gooseneck fitting into the mast, insert the slides of the main sail, and you're about ready to raise sail and go have fun.........
