I just bought a 1981 Montgomery 15' hull number 172. I took it out of Channel Islands Harbor, CA harbor between Anacapa Island and the harbor this past Saturday and had a wonderful time. My boat is now in a Ventura Harbor dry slip. This will be my non trailerable water entry. I have always been a power boater. Six months ago. I bought a sailing Hobie Outback which piqued my interest in real sailing. The Hobie experience changed my mind about sailing. Now, I want to take my Hobie behind me to the channel Islands for some exploring. After reading every post, article and user group web sites, I settled on the Montgomery 15. I wanted a small first time boat, trailerable by a regular car, with some space inside and a head. This was the perfect boat as you already know. It seems to be sea worthy but needs some cosmetic work which I am looking forward to. I only need to figure out a way to raise the mast by myself and set up the sails for single sailing. Any suggestions? Now I have to learn by doing since I've read just about every thing available. If there are any Montgomery's in the Ventura area, please contact me to sail around the area.
