I looked at the tires on Audasea's trailer, and as I recall, they were Douglas brand, P195-75R14. A radial auto tire. I think the previous owner put them on about 5 years ago, and since then, they have made a trip from the Midwest to San Francisco, and twice by me from Missouri to the east coast (2,000 miles round trip) and once to Minnesota (1,000 miles round trip), plus numerous small trips, and are showing more affects from sitting around than from driving. I was watching the other day, and didn't notice any sway, but did notice that she tends to "float" going down the highway. The radials cushion the ride from all the road bumps, which in Missouri, are nasty. The movement has no affect on the tow vehicle....well at least not on my tow vehicle, which is a 3/4 ton Suburban. Hi Randy..
Yes, the tires do sway a bit from side-side when going over speed bumps and the like. But I am very happy with them and their long-life performance. <<
I"m looking for radials... never noticed any swaying when I towed, even over the Tennessee mountains (nothing like yours, though).
The tires that I got with Stargazer still have a lot of tread on them, but I'd say that they're at least 10 years (or more) old!!
No sidewall cracks, but there's a slow leak in one, and the spare is a bias ply. Methinks I'll get a pair of radial trailer tires and use the good tire as the spare. I'm having eye problems, an dwhen the day comes for her to go to another sailor, I'd like to have a decent set of tires on her...
