Tom Sagitta, has a CDI roller furler and a 135 jib that I will roll with the wind changes, it's a 6oz Dacron that I had made along with my main which has 2 reef points. I sail in Corpus Christi Bay in Texas, and it gets really windy fast. I love my roller furler, even thu the sail shape is better on a regular sail, I would not give up my furling jib. She also has a full batten main with two 3 foot deep reef points. I have sailed on her when the double reefed main and the #3 storm jib was all she would carry. As with most masthead rigs, sailing without a jib gives very little drive to winward. I was very glad to have that "tiny little rag" up there since we had a long beat back to her mooring. Texas lakes definately have "snarling winds" so I am glad to have the variety of sails. Ron M17 #14, Griselda Lake Livingston, Texas

Hello out there, I could use some advice on sails. An interesting jib came with my 2004 M17; it measures some 60 square feet with a very high clew and a set of reef points that knock off another 5 square feet. Elliott/Pattison (that made the sail) apparently considers this its utility heavy weather sail, but I have found a real storm jib quite useful on other boats, and I am considering their 23 square foot "model". Have any of you needed such a small jib for snarling lake winds, perhaps in conjunction with a double-reefed main? (Speaking of mains, I have only one reef point; should I consider a second or even a third?) Any comments (besides "what an idiot") will be greatly appreciated.
