Outboard motors are very reliable engines. If they're taken care of, they last a very long time. Most problems come from dirt in the gas which clogs orifices in the carb. Always keep a fresh spark plug on board and a few tools to change it. Take the time to learn about the engine. It'll save you a lot of frustration.
