Thanks for all the replies, guys. Tom, do you know the dimensions of your drifter? I really like the drifter on my Venture 23 for really light air. We won the Manufacturers' Cup at last year's HPCC with it. (And that was only the second race in my entire life!) "*If it's blowing hard, the 130 and a reefed main is a very comfortable* *combination for me." * Did you mean to say "110 and a reefed main" or does the 130 make a good combination? Thanks! Hi Henry.
I'm fairly conservative in my sail choice.
I use a 110 and a 130 (I have a big new drifter I use up to 8-9 knots). If the wind is up, the 110 is a good sail--it's what I start with and just change up if conditions warrant--I'd rather change up than change down.
If it's blowing hard, the 130 and a reefed main is a very comfortable combination for me.
I've had new sails sewn recently by a loft in Spokane run by a guy named Don Yager. I think he did a good job and his prices are reasonable. I know he has a website, and if you search on him you'll find it.

What hank-on headsails would you get for an M17 if you could only have two (in addition to a storm jib)?
110% and 130% ? 110% and 150% ? 130% and 150% ? 130% with reef and 170% nylon drifter? Other combinations?
I like to sail in heavy air but often end up in very light stuff. In other words I need sails for all conditions, mostly on inland lakes with an occasional foray to Lake Michigan or Lake Superior. I can't afford to buy any right now but would like to know what to save up for.
What size storm jib? I have a tanbark sail from a smaller boat that I think might work. It is 14'3" x 13'10" x 6'11", about 47 sq ft. I also have two real storm sails from Chiquita. One is tanbark, 14' x 11'6" x 6'2", about 36 sq ft. The other is white, 12' x 9' x 6', about 26 sq ft.
Which would be most appropriate for a M17?
