My pin (M17 #38, '74) is a stainless bolt, not a pin...with locknut on the nut side. So no chance of movement. There's a recess in the keel on both sides so the bolt head and nut do not protrude beyond keel surface. No idea if that's OEM or some later owner's modification...? cheers, john On 03/05/2019 09:34 AM, Dave Scobie wrote:
The pin working can happen. A cause is the centerboard being down when not sailing as it will rock causing the pin the move. Best to raise the board when anchored, at a buoy and at the dock.
Tapping it back into place is the fix.
'butter' the ends of the pin with 3M 4200 or Sikiaflex 291. A 1" diameter blob will do the trick.
As you 'distressed the edges' a negative result can be when the board needs to be serviced the holes will be forced to a larger diameter and the pin will be very loose. A larger pin will be needed and the board's rotation hole adjusted. Or the holes in the keel rebuild to be made the original size.

M-Folks, Had a scare recently. After sailing my M17 for 6 weeks in the Keys, I pulled the boat and to my horror sawthat the CB pivot pin was sticking out of the keel...sticking out about an inch on the port side and seeming ready to fall out.Whats the remedy? Glass it in place, I suppose? Anybody have a similar experience? I tapped it back in easily and distressed the edges lightly with a screwdriver and it's tight now...but what if!!!CheerspeterSV Bird Girl
