Man, I started to go out at 7pm Sunday night as soon as I left the dock, I was all "tis I am the great sailor" cause I was departing w/o using the motor. I started to unfurl the jib, when I looked up and saw the freaking mast coming down on me. ahhh I managed to catch it and break its fall, but also got bonked on the head. Looking around to see who was watching (pride hurts more than pain) I non-chalantly started the motor and limped back to the dock. After looking for the cause I, found the quick release pin, had ,guess what? Quick released. I have a line tied to the pin so it I wont lose it, and the line was secured to the deck not the forestay, so every time I furled and unfurled the line would get more and more twisted. I used a regular clevis pin with a cotter pin to resecure the forestay and still managed to get out and sail for 45 minutes. Thank goodness for light masts.
