Ok thanks guys, sounds like I might leave getting a new trailer š On Tue, Jul 6, 2021 at 10:02 PM John Schinnerer via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:
I got a quote from Pacific 3 or 4 (or maybe 5 by now) years ago for M17 trailer and it was something over $3600 as I recall. Not including transport from SoCal, another $200 or $250 (to southern Oregon).
After that I talked with a local marine/trailer service and fabrication place. Seemed pretty clear I could get a custom trailer for less, and less weight. I haven't made a move yet, but I would go with a local boat trailer fabricator if I get a new trailer. I can do all the bolt-on stuff myself (bunk supports, bunks, keel guide, lights & wiring, etc.). Just need a carcass I can tow away from the fab shop. My aim is to keep it light & simple. The Pacific was quoted at somewhere upwards of 650 lbs IIRC, maybe even over 700 lbs.
I would have two key customizations: 1) Extendable tongue 2) Front mast support crutch that extends to provide attachment point for mast raise/lower.
FWIW the fabricator I talked to favors plain steel C-channel for boat trailer frames. He pointed out that being all open, C-channel is easy to rinse thoroughly if dipped in salt water, lighter than box for near same stiffness, and if it is rusting anywhere, it's easy to see and treat.
cheers, john

Does anybody have a ballpark cost on the Pacific Trailer for the M17? Mine is a huge trailer that the previous owner modified to fit my M17, itās in decent shape but would prefer a more compact trailer⦠might not be worth it but something to consider.

Hello all,
Iām planning on getting a new trailer fabricated by Pacific Trailers. It is my understanding that they made trailers for the Montgomeryās since the 1980ās, and later, also made the lower profile trailer for the Sage 17⦠when the Sage was re-designed, does anyone know if there any changes to the hull configuration? (I would like to order the newer, low profile trailer for my 1980 M17.) The rep at Pacific Trailers says to āhis knowledgeā there werenāt any changes. Has anyone changed out trailers for their Montgomeryās?
Thanks so much, Keith M17 Ginger Snap
