Bill: I've got a backstay adjuster rig, but never use it. It seems like too much unnecessary stuff to rig.. The quick-release rig just lives there and does nothing, kind of like me! Thanks Mark. Glad it works. Just curious, why didn't you just fit a back stay adjuster plate on the split backstay, along with a small tackle? Also made by Johnson.

Here's a photo. It's a Johnson Quick release Lever model 14205, see the link below.
I had to get my backstay shortened about 8 inches to fit the device between the backstay bridle and turnbuckle. It works great. I suppose most folks use the device on the forestay. But that won't work with a furler. So I put it on the backstay.

Mark,
That is great news. Hopefully you can get out on the water more often and spend more time sailing. How did the lever tensioner attach to the back stay? Remind us again what area you sail in?

A few months ago, I wrote that I must be the slowest rigger anywhere. It
took me 3-1/2 hours to setup, rig and launch my 1977 M-17. I got lots of good ideas from y'all, so I thought I'd make a report. I rigged the boat single-handed, and launched in 1-1/2 hours yesterday. Four key changes made the difference. 1) An old army gas mask bag hanging from my shoulder contains all the tools I need, and holds tie-downs, reducing the number of times I have to hop up and down off the deck. 2) I leave the shrouds in their final, adjusted length so I don't have to fiddle with turnbuckles anymore. 3) A lever-action tensioner in the backstay lets me swing the mast just far enough forward of its normal position to easily attach the CDI furler and headstay. 4) a re-designed trailer tongue extension can be attached using no tools.
I can't remember who sent me all these ideas, but thanks, thanks, thanks! ______________________________**_________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/**cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/** montgomery_boats<http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats>
