Tried a couple of reference books in the local public library on maritime and navigation markers, but did not find the meaning of the yellow flag on the http://tracker.r2ak.com/ map. What is it? I don't see any Sage Cat officially in the race. All the 'cats' in the list are 'cat'amarans.
The first stage (Pt. Townsend to Victoria) is over so right now, the tracker will indicate that when you go to it. Once the second stage (Victoria to Ketchikan) has started it will show tracking for that.

http://tracker.r2ak.com/ works for me, I found Excellent Adventure (M-17) on the map of the Victoria B.C. Harbor. What are the names of the other M-boats and the name of the Sage Cat? Steve M-15 # 335

Follow the glorious Montgomery boats on the tracker: http://tracker.r2ak.com/
A post from team Excellent Adventure, one of the two M17s (and a Ketchikan finisher the past two years, but apparently only doing the first leg this year) indicates some of why boats are all the heck over the place at this time after the first stage start, and their own particular tactics. Borne out by the windicators in the tracker...it's blowing pretty hard out in the strait, more so closer to the finish line.
The other M17, team Rush Aweigh, is hanging out just off the spit at Dungeness. One of the kayaks, and the pair of SUPs, are on shore at the spit.
Excellent Adventure is presumably using the same oar rig as the first two years. Not sure what Rush Aweigh is doing about that.
cheers, John S.

Dave,
Was good to meet you and see the Sage Cat at R2AK yesterday. Noticed also there are other M-boats in the R2AK, but I didn't see oar locks on them, hope they get fair winds for the 750 miles to Alaska. Hope they got off O K when the starting gun was fired at 5:00 AM today. Steve M-15 # 335

Brad:
did you make a supporting mount that the battery boxes, and the containing batteries, are attached? ie, how are the batteries strapped down?

this may be a dumb question, but where else to ask but here...
am contemplating trailering my 2009 M15, with two 12 volt car type batteries (about 20 pounds each), strapped into their compartments, under the cabin storage panel, placed onto the boat bottom
it'll be mostly highway travel, but i don't know how strong the boat bottom is, and my first thought is that to do so is a dumb idea and may cause damage to the boat bottom, and its just better to have the batteries in the towing vehicle
thanks for any thoughts on the matter!
