Rick, For my quick-to-get-at items; gps, sun screen, snacks, sun glasses, horn, FRS radio, water bottle, camera, etc. I use a water proof fanny pack that I attach below the teak bridge deck on my M-15. The fanny pack sandwiches in between the bridge deck and cockpit sole, I attach the fanny pack belt clip around the center board pennant to keep it in place should I take a knock down. The pack is not so big as to block water escaping the cockpit down the drain. When I leave the boat the pack comes with me and I refill and restock it at home. I made a small teak block that is glued to the inside of the companionway: port side. An eyeglass holder fits there. Everything instantly available. GPS / binoculars / Grundig radio / beer: Built a new lower hatch board with a teak holder that contains all the above while I sail; individually, or in multiple combinations Sail stops / Forespar tiller extension / misc. small stuff - car keys, boat locks, whistle, hat, live in the shallow starboard sail locker Clothing lives in the storage areas under the berths. Tool box / galley / nav. equipment / hand held VHF live in various plastic boxes aft under cockpit sole. Tool box is a small unit that has two removable boxes in the lid that hold small stuff: screws, nuts and bolts; clevis pins; rings, etc.; while the box itself has the normal: M15 size wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, saw, drill bits.............. A great design - everything you might need in one convenient spot. I showed you the galley box in a 19" tool box with everything needed for the two of us. The other things are in Rubbermaid snap lid boxes of various sizes that hold first aid material, extra batteries, sun cream, and all the odds and ends that "may" be needed at some point in time. Plastic slide rule; average speed calculator; wind velocity instrument; spare tell tales, (left overs from the pre GPS days). Hatch boards are stored in the port side area aft of the port berth. Companionway table is stowed under berth mattress so it doesn't slide around while sailing. The only items on berths are my sail bag for the jib (main is furled on the boom); and my straw hat, used when sailing if it isn't too windy. Starboard sail locker - below removable shallow tray - I have extra cockpit cushions; the swim ladder; the paddle/boat hook; and the Bimini. Port sail locker: Bruce anchor / chain / rode, and an aluminum Danforth with rode in a narrow plastic box: fenders; fender board; outboard fuel - (2) 1 quart containers; bucket / cleaning materials; mooring lines; flags and pennants; daily use cockpit cushions, small hand operated bilge pump; and probably much more.......... Bow compartment: Fortress anchor with chain and rode Cover over portapotti modified to be used as a table at aft end of cockpit. Rick go back in the archives and read Scott's account of how he stows everything on his M15 for his Inland Passage trips. Scott uses every cubic inch that is available, and with his long trips, his storage method is the refinement of years of use.
