Hi Ronald, I'm also the smallest boat in our sailing club, sailing PHRF Non-spin with a 294 rating, so I've been there, done that. It is kinda fun to beat out the bigger boats on corrected time, or, better yet, beat them round the buoys. When it comes to racing, the M17 punches way above her size and weight. Come to think of it, she does that in every other category too. Wish I could make the AZYC races, but I'm an East Coaster. I was wondering if anyone would consider participating in the Fall race series put on by the Arizona Yacht Club. They run a fall and Spring series and held at Lake Pleasant. The fall series runs about every other weekend from Sept 20th until Nov 16th. Each fleet volunteers one race weekend to help run the races and host the Saturday dinner, so it's actually only 4 race weekends. You don't have to participate every race weekend unless you are trying for the series title. You also don't have to become a member to register and you could even register for a single day or weekend if you want. Saturday races start at 12:30 and go until about 4:30 and Sunday races start at 9:00 and are over by 1:00. I participated in the PHRF Non-Spin handicap fleet last year and plan to again this year. There are only about 5 boats in the fleet and my M17 is the smallest and slowest boat. So we watch everyones transoms through the races and find out on Monday after the handicaps are applied, how well we did. It shore would be more fun if there were a few Monty's out there to race with side by side.
